ADSL Modem has a short circuit

I bought a Billion 810VGTX ADSL Modem at Maponya Mall mid-last year, which took me close to 3 months to budget for as its a convenient and bandwidth is cheaper than using my 3g - this was after 5 months of my previous modem being damaged but its was outside its 1 year warranty.
This past 3 weeks my new modem has been switching itself on and off or rather resetting itself and not being able to synch properly, I reported the fault which we tested the modem over the phone and I was given a reference number, I went to The Glen yesterday around 3pm to return it and get a new one, and the lady told me that I need a slip, and I told her that a couple of months ago, my wallet was and that is the safest place that I keep slips in, and this is a telkom product and I assume that for the mere fact that they scan them they should have a record of them on the system and she told me"you should find a better place to store you slips". Bearing in mind that a customer before me was exchanged and no slip required its quiet pathetic and she was Caucasian, I found the service disrespectful and being told to forget about R1500 is disrespectful to my hard earned money. They must exchange it.
