It has come to my attention that Vodacom has passed on my mobile number to one of its resellers, maybe more. They have tried to say that the info is readily available via the national credit bureau. This is a because of the following:
1, They simply don't just give up your information unless doing a credit check, which costs money, so the reseller in question would be paying a fortune for a list of numbers
2. After pulling my credit record with ITC, you can see who requested the data, and the reseller is not listed.
3. The number held with ITC was incorrect. Where did the reseller get my new number?
4. The reseller knew I was on a pay as you go. This is NOT listed with any credit bureau.
5. After chatting with someone at the reseller to get my number removed from their database, they admitted that they got the info from their supplier, Vodacom.
Am currently seeking legal clarification on this matter.
