Debits after cancellation

I requested cancellation of a month to month contract on the 16/08/2013. I have been debited until the end of December 2013 and a part fee for Jan this year. Cell C have no record of my request to cancel as the have somehow lost or misplaced my request and and are holding me liable for payment. Cell C is also threatening me with legal action. Cell C does not want to admit that they have made an error and after a previous comlaint logged on Hello Peter have still not resolved my issue and say that my request to cancel the contract is just 'hearsay'.
I requested the cancellation at The Glen Cell C and completed the 1 page Cancellation form and provided them with a copy of my ID as requested by the agent there. I was told that it would be faxed through for cancellation and this seems to have never been done. Neran (manager) at The Glen is the only person trying to resolve my issue but he is also getting no joy.
Do I also need to take legal action in the same manner that I am being threatened by Cell C? I will then also claim the legal fees back from Cell C.
