Cell C
Unethical Advertising

Hi There

I was visiting my in laws in the EC in December, my father in law has a tuck shop. His house has a different colour paint, and the spaza shop section is painted in blue.
I then realized that a lot of spaza shops in the area had been painted in blue and where branded by cell c.

I thought this was an interesting angle for them to do their branding and advertising, so I asked my father in law what arrangements had been made in terms of compensation.
I was disturbed to learn that cell c was/is using people's property to advertise, but they offer no compensation to the landlords.

I am in Marketing and Advertising, I therefore understand the value of advertising, I found it highly unethical that cell c would exploit people like that and then get away with it.

They basically "ask" for permission to brand the shops, and that's it! No compensation, no contract.. they just ask because they know that the landlords are not informed enough to know more about what it is that cell c is doing exactly and what it is that cell c benefits. Annoying right? I was very annoyed!

The fact that Cell C can capitalize on people's lack of knowledge just does not give me rest!
