I have a 2 gig data contract - Cell C which I pay R120 a month. A month ago I noticed I could send a sms that showed I could buy data bundles. There were a few options eg. 500mb for R75. I bought 300mb for R45. Then bought 500mb for R75. Each time receiving a confirmation. Imagine my horror when yesterday I checked my account balance and saw that at the end of the month they are billing me R920! R1 a mb!!! R800 for 800mb!! If I was not able to buy at the specified amount of R75 for 500mb I shouldn't have been able to do the transaction. On a related note, when I took out my cell phone contract the lady that served me said I would be paying 15c a mb on my phone for data. My first 3 months my phone bill was over R700, they were charging me R1 a mb which was not what I was told. I phone in over and over to customer care with absolutely no help and very poor phone etiquette. Extremely unhelpful and when I asked to speak to supervisors I was told no. When they said they would phone back they never did. Emails went unanswered as well. When I finally went into the branch I took the contract out from I was promised I would be reimbursed for the three months for the R500 (x3) cost of data.
