I called telkom to cancel my internet data account as I was moving to a new service provider. This service provider was also suppose to take over the management of my adsl line. When I phoned telkom to cancel the internet data account they offered me 25% off my adsl line rental. As I did not know how long it was going to take to move my line to the new service provider I accepted the 25% discount, BUT telkom failed to tell me this 25% off was a part of a 12 month contract I was entering into with them. My new service provider told me that because I have a "contract" with telkom they were not able to migrate the line. I phoned telkom and they said this new 25% off was the contract and that there would be a penalty fee of 10% of the monthly cost of the contract multiplied by the number of months the contract has left to run.
This is infuriating as had I been told it was a contract I would never have accepted the 25% off. Now I am stuck with telkom managing my ADSL line as I refuse to pay them the penalty fee as I believe it is ethically wrong. Telkom are the last people I would think about taking out a contract with, now I;m stuck with them due to their lack of communication skills.
