Incorrect debiting of my account

I cancelled my previous contract with Planet Fitness however they never cancelled it. I was with a friend at the time who sent them an email confirming it. This was resolved and I took out another contract. I had to wait 6 weeks before they loaded the new contract as they were cancelling the old contract. Every morning I had to repeat the entire story so that I was allowed to enter the gym. Finally I was led to believe that all was sorted. My mistake to believe that. On the 27 September they debited my amount with R1234.00 which is pro-rata for September 2013, October 2013 and I can only think that the R600 (approx) difference is the old contracts monthly fee. I sent an email to the club manager and the wellness manager on Saturday evening. I am not sure why I am surprised that they did not even acknowledge my email never mind respond to it. When they previous saga was going on a few emails also went unanswered. This is technically as you cannot debit my account for money that is not due. Do I need to seek legal opinion in order to resolve this?
