Internet abduction

I was searching recipes on line when a large vibrating banner popped up, blocking my screen. It invited me to enter a competition to win groceries. I clicked NO, yet it took me to their link anyway. When I attempted to close the link a dialogue box popped up asking me if I was sure I wanted to leave the site, I clicked YES. I was once again diverted back to the site, over and over, until I finally had to close my browser, losing what I was doing, and getting very off!
