Refusal to use Smart Card

I utilise a smart phone and the "Cardless" mobile application to store all of my loyalty card details. I do not carry my loyalty cards with me, and every retailer i have shopped with up to now has accepted the Cardless appliction which is in increasing use by smartphone owners in South Africa. Until last night. The teller refused to scan in the barcode or even to manually enter the card number. (Note I was not using the card to redeem or transfer points, only to earn them on my purchases). After I called the manager I was told that it was a head office instruction not to use anything except the physical card for loyalty points. I am happy that this is your company policy, please however notify your customers with smartphones of this policy at the door so that they can shop at retailers who do accept cardless loyalty cards. For my part instead of PnP, for my toileteries I will now use Dischem, Fruit & Veg for my food, and Shoprite for other, they may not have cards they are cheaper than you in these categories.
