No staff and no stock

I went to Edgars at Bayside on Sunday to buy shoes. They did not have a size 8 in the shoe I wanted. There were no staff on the floor, only two tellers at the clothing section. I got one of them to help me. The computer was offline so they couldn't see if they had stock of this item at other stores. She was told to phone the other stores. She didn't even know that you have to dial 021 before the number. After about half an hour of waiting, I was promised that they would phone me that afternoon to let me know. I said "I'm pretty sure you won't, because I've been promised that before at this store." "Oh no. We will definitely phone you." I left my number and of course, surprise surprise, never received any call. None of the stores they phoned had a size 8. I then decided to purchase some baby stuff in the meantime, but because there were hardly any staff, the queues were far too long. This is not the first time this has happened at this store. I saw other customers leaving too.
I can't believe that no store stocks a size 8. I still want my shoes though, so what do I have to do to coerce Edgars into selling me something?
