Goods Incorrectly Priced

I made the stupid mistake of assuming that the price on the goods on the shelf would be what i would pay at the till. Silly me! I picked up an item priced at R399.00 and when scanned at the till the price was R420. My next mistake was thinking I should stand my ground and have the cheek to ask to pay only the price advertised. I knew this was going to be a painful process and I wasn't disappointed. First I wait, then a man is dispatched to the aisle where I bought the item (presumably to check i wasn't lying and trying to cheat the mighty Massmart out of R20) He spots that the barcode on the item isn't the same as the ticket even though the description on the price ticket is for item in question Problem! Sorry we know it's wrong but virtually impossible to fix, lots of head shaking. Back to the till, find supervisor more head shaking, are you not mandated to overide R20? obviously not, imagine the chaos that might break out if we starting charging people the correct amount of money. I know let's phone someone from the department and wait while she walks over to ask me what the problem is... life too short I pay... what a fool.
