At 10:15 this morning I was at the Shoprite (Evander) by the butchery section to get some turkey. There was a lady (whom I was told manages the butchery) and two gentlemen pre-occupied with cutting the meat. The meat was being cut and placed on a table right next the lady and one of the men (Thomas Maseko).
As I approached I noticed a stack of red meat lying on the floor. The floor didn't look clean at all. Thomas saw me, approached me and asked how he could help. Seeing that my eyes were fixed on the meat on the floor he gradually picked it up and threw the stack of dirty meat on the clean pile on the table.
I asked him if he's intending to package all the infected meat and sell it, he said yes - very condescendingly. I stressed to him that that meat that came off the floor should have been cleaned, let alone disposed and that he has now infected all the meat they have on the table. His response was coupled with remarks like "You think you are White" and "Get over yourself". As if that was bad, he started to threaten me once I summoned his branch manager (Ntokozo Dhluhlu) - who didn't even reprimand him.
In short, Evander Shoprite's butchery has left a bad taste in my mouth.
