Double payment for goods

On Monday 26 May I went to shop at Fruit and Veg city in Port Elizabeth, Newton Park branch. Upon payment I swiped my debit card and was informed by the lady at the till that the transaction was declined.
I paid the amount in cash and left the shop.
Later the same day I saw on my banking statement that the amount went through and the money were deducted from my debit card.
On Tuesday 27 May I called the shop and spoke to the manager who assured me that they will pay back the money within the next hour. Later the same day I called again and were told by the same manager that the lady working with the bankings will only be in on Wednesday and that the issue will be sorted out Wednesday morning.
Wednesday I made four phone calls to the manager and each time were promised that the matter are being looked into.
On Thursday morning I called again and once again were told that they are looking into the problem.
Is it really that hard to see on the cash up and banking statements of the day that a customer were double charged.
I even faxed my bank statement three times to the number supplied to me
