Yesterday my boyfriend and I stopped at Emmarentia botanical gardens to eat the KFC takeaway we just bought. We sat in the car, doors open eating our food when 5 Mabotwane Security Guards approached our vehicle telling us to hand over the drugs...??! Whilst still in the car one guard leant in over me scratching around searching the vehicle.
We managed to step out from the car when we were frisked, the car searched and our bags were emptied and searched.
They threatened detainment whilst waiting for the police and dog unit to arrive to conduct a thorough search since they found NOTHING!
They could provide no reason for suspicion, no search warrant.
Finally, only once I started calling my lawyer did they begin to back off, agreed amongst themselves to let us go.
We gave no reason for them to be suspicious of us, just openly eating our food in what is meant to be a relaxed public space! This is blatant harassment, unlawful search of our property and persons!
I want answers, and I will be taking this further.
