2 August 2013, my boyfriend and I had our weekly date night at Monte Casino. A take me home service was to collect us at 11 pm. We waited in our cars at 11pm. My boyfriend lit a cigarette in his car and we soon found Tshepo (security guard) went to his car and held onto the car.2 minutes later, the tactical team arrived with guns, all white male and surrounded his car. We then got out of our cars, to find they were all holding guns and treated us as if we were criminals. Then only were we told that Tsepo thought my boyfriend was smoking marijuana, which was not the case as you would clearly smell marijuana a mile away, and we had the car door open. Morne van de Merwe stood 5 cm away from my boyfriends face and gave him a look of intinmidation as he held his gun holster. The Security manager Michael arrived after the tactical team and did nothing.the rest of the security laughed and made jokes. We were then told to go home. Had there been marijuana scented, we would have been locked away. We were harassed and nothing was done by the head of security, Johannes. Should this place really be hosting world class events if their security can't do their jobs properly? Lack of procedure and professionalism.
