I came over from New Zealand and decided to use Smith's Party Hire for my engagement party. Well before the party a quote had been issued and signed by both parties. The day before the party (when there was no time to find another party supplier) they contacted us to say the delivery charge was in fact R400 more than they had agreed to. Due to the very late notice we had no choice but to accept this, of this they were well aware. When the equipment arrived we were shocked with what we saw. The glasses we had hired were not only different sizes but were exceptionally dirty, the knives and forks were all different types and sizes. When I thought it could not get worse, the white table clothes had large marks and stains on them. When we contacted the supplier we were told the person in charge was on holiday and they would get back to us. I write this 2 weeks later and have heard nothing from Smith's Party Hire. It saddens me that when so many businesses in SA are struggling to make ends meet there are still some out there that have no idea about customer services or quality products.
