We've just moved here from the U.S. to Durban. We diligently went about finding a place and looked at several. Wanting to be in Umdloti, we settled on a place through Lew Geffen Sotheby's in Umhlanga, shown to us by Deek Leyland. As we walked the premises, he told us of all the work that would be completed. Upon arriving at the office, they had created an official looking "addendum" list and even called the owner on speaker so we could here that, yes, the upgrades would be completed by the first of October so we could move in. It was a week away. We asked for a copy of the "addendum" and were told they would, no problem, get one with a copy of our lease. We unwittingly signed the lease and were handed the keys five days later by Deek and told we could move in. This was 30th September. We immediately went to check the place out, of course, excited by a new place, all spiffed up and ready for our things but nothing we'd discussed was completed. We'd no choice but to find a place where our things could be delivered and they've kept every Rand we paid. Addendum was a ruse., . Made the mistake of thinking Sotheby's was a reputable institution.
