Department Of Social Services
Abuse at the hands of public servants

My mum, on 07 March 2013, went to this branch of the Dept. of Soc. Dev to apply for a old age pension. The service she and the rest of the people waiting in line received was tantamount to abuse. She was made to wait for hours before anyone even bothered to ask what she were there for - for this reason, people applying for all different types of grants or people doing completely different things were all standing in the same queue or trying to find some assistance which was not forthcoming. Disabled persons were treated in an even more disrespectful manner - the lack of wheelchair access basically denied them their basic rights. My mum and others were ushered like sardines into a room that was cramped and not suitable for human beings and then asked in a derogatory tone, "So, did you get your tea and biscuits yet? ". This same person then rudely dismissed peoples queries and when my mum asked him for his name to complain about him to his supervisor, he did not give it to her. One old gentleman was dismissed without even being spoken to told he must "just come back tomorrow". This is atrocious and needs to be dealt with.
