On 31/01/2013 the JMPD pulled in to 4th Avenue Parkhurst creating a bad atmosphere around restaurants as they threatened to remove tables set closer to the pavements than 1.5m. It took a discussion of 11 JMPD and city officials to discuss the matter (without a tape measure), and 2 cars, 2 vans, 1 combi and 1 truck stood in the street for 2 -3 hours while the matter was being resolved, with JMPD loitering int he street all this time. This is a serious misuse of taxpayers money and resources in a country that has crumbling infrastructure and ever-increasing crime. If the point was to create order I believe areas like Jeppe street and Joburg CBD has hawkers (who don't even pay rent) selling their wares so far into the street that a car can no longer drive down the road should be the target! There is chaos, no-one is paying rent, the people are littering and destroying the old town. That said I would rather see our police putting all their resources into crime fighting rather than this petty squabble over side-walk space!
