We regularly get the most exorbitant accounts for our electricity. We are two pensioners, and our electricity usage is minimal. When I approached the municipality, I was told that it is as a result of them only doing estimates, instead of reading the meters. Besides the fact that we are elderly, and our electricity meter is in a box on the street corner two houses away - which is awkward to get to, it is unfair to expect us to pay more than we need to, on a pensioner's income. When it was being read it was around R800 per month, now we pay R1600 per month. The box is also locked and they have told us that to read it we need to get a key from the municipality. What do we pay for? They must have officials who read these meters on a monthly basis - I know they used to.
I would appreciate it if you could address this issue as it is becoming increasingly difficult to survive on our pension, when our bill for electricity is over estimated and beyond our means.
thank you.
