I got all the requested documents that the insurance company asked for and paid the insurance for 12 years without fail, only to find out that they won't assist me with a theft claim for my cellphone.
Firstly, they didn't inform me that Edgars no longer deals with these claims, even though Edgars is underwritten by Hollard.
Secondly, they did not inform me of the policy procedure.
Thirdly, I paid this policy without fail and didn't make any claims in those 12 years. This is my first claim, and it was declined.
I am so disgusted that insurance companies rip off good South African citizens of their hard-earned money.
I have asked the Shova company if I can go to Edgars with my claim, but they said no and didn't explain anything about Edgars not being involved in their claim process. In the past, you could claim at the Edgars store, but all of a sudden, it has changed and Hollard has failed to inform clients about this process.
They said that after I get all the requested documents, I then need to pay an access fee. It took them almost 2 weeks to get back to me, saying that I should have prevented the phone from being lost.
But the irony of this whole procedure and how they dealt with it was a scam. I never lost the phone; it was stolen from our property, which I had no control over. I am aggravated by the fact that these companies can just get away with taking my money, and no one does or says anything.
The question i sit with who stands up to these greedy insurance companies and defend the citizens from their scams and lies of stealing our money.
