2 Russell Hobbs kettles in the past 4 years

I have purchased 2 Russell Hobbs kettles in the past 4 years. The 2nd one has also just packed up. They only carry a 1 year guarantee: the same as their much much cheaper counterparts. I think it is ridiculous that we are enticed into buying a product that, by the price, we are lead to believe will outlast cheaper brands. For the past 5 years or so I have been a loyal Russell Hobbs customer, purchasing various kettles; toasters and irons (through moving I have often had to end up buying more than one of each; most of which are currently sitting in boxes so I do not the know expected life span that awaits me!). I will no longer support this brand, as I do not believe it is right that one spends so much on a certain product, when one can spend half the price on cheaper makes and have them last just as long if not longer. I called Boardmans where I bought it from, but I learnt the guarantee was only 1 year not 2. I still have my receipt. I called the head office and they said I would have to bring the product in to them and they would assess it for repairs which would be charged for. Petrol to the head office alone will cost me R200 to drop off & collect, so it is not worth my while!
