Tom Tom Software failure

After having a Tom Tom Start 2 for less than a year the software failed. Tom Tom advised to do a software update to fix the unit. After doing the update the unit would start up but say no map found. I checked the device and the map is on the device still. Tom Tom advised that they want to do a full format/reset on the unit but because their software cant see the map we have to purchase a new map. I got a map activation code tried that and the device gives me a big middle finger. Now I am sitting with a unit under warranty that I cant use and Tom Tom wont give me a replacement code for a new unit.
