Hi all. I am a non e-tagged South African motorist. I drove on e-tolled roads for the first 2 weeks of the e-toll system came online, after which my car broke down and was unable to drive. However I received an sms stating that I owe R968. How is that possible?
When I called the customer call center they were unable to give me an answer and were unable to tell me when or in fact if I was going to receive a registered and official bill detailing what I owe along with proof that it was actually my car going through the tolls. They then went on to send me an email giving the amount which I owe however there is no breakdown of cost or proof that it was in fact my car that owed money. They did not even give the number plate of my vehicle.
I am a law abiding citizen and have always paid any fines I receive. However I cannot pay a fine that does not provide proof of my transgression. Nor can I pay a fine when I am not provided with any details as to how I am to go about paying the fine. I fully intend to pay the true amount I owe. However, I both morally and physically cannot until the above has been addressed.
Thank you in advance for your time and helpfulness in this matter.
