Renault South Africa
Renault exploits aged custome

My father, Mr WJ Coetzee, ordered a new instrument cluster through Menlyn Renault in Pretoria for his 2002 Renault Megane. He had to pay cash up front to the amount of R6900 before the order would be placed. The cluster eventually arrived from France and was installed in November 2013.

The problem is that the speedometer is marked in Miles per Hour with small, faint red kilometer lettering which is basically unreadable. Furthermore, the distance meter measures in miles and not kilometers. Two issues are relevant here: 1. Christo Blake, parts manager, ordered the incorrect part (I have proof of the different numbers on the old and new cluster) 2. Kobus Bruwer, workshop manager, had the cluster installed without verifying its correctness. Also, they kept it quiet.

A lot of communication has already taken place to no avail. My father is aged 84, is not computer literate and has no verifiable proof, like emails, so I'm now dealing with this.

I would like Renault to 1. Stand up to the fact that the cluster is not usable in South Africa 2. remove it from the car and 3. refund my father the money he had paid. I have acquired a used cluster to install.

Ruhan Coetzee
