Between 02 and 20 Dec 2013 a group of us went on a Birding tour to Botswana and Caprivi. The first two weeks were almost idyllic. Lots of birding and lots of birds. Once we started on the return trip the wheels fell off. The birding more or less stopped and then the Airconditioning packed up. This meant being subjected to ambient temperatures in excess of 32 degrees for long hauls of 10 hours and more.
Japies tail was that he could not get anyone to repair the Airconditioning. The question to ask is could not or would not??? Our problem was that we did not have time to get it fixed. In other words there was no contingency plan.
The fact that a tour operater guiding his own tour could allow a situation like this to develope and then persist is against all the Ethics of the business.
Needless to say a tour that had the potential to be a "tour of a lifetime" degenerated into a damp squib.
