Nothing can be more frustrating than a little ol' lady entering a workshop on the Friday when the plant is closing down with the plea to help her.
The 3m umbrella I bought from Makro a week previously was rendered unusable the first time it faced the southerly wind that pumps through the West coast at this time of the year. The upright supporting pipe literally bent in two.
I needed a new pipe, but was told by Koos (owner of Namakwa Engineering) that it was not a standard size ("Made in China" and we know they're a midget nation) and, no, he didn't have anything like it in stock so couldn't help me.
It must have been the distressed look on my face because he indicated for me to wait and went scrounging around under piles of metal and voila! pulled out a marginally larger diameter pipe that would do the job.
Hole drilled (to secure it in the base) and in under an hour I was on my way, me a happy customer and Koos pleased to have been able to help (also he could now pack up and head out on his annual leave).
