Liberty Medical Scheme
No notification of being handed over to attorneys

On 17 April 2013 I collected a registered letter at a post office in Pretoria. The letter was dated 25 February 2013 and was a final demand letter from Liberty Medical Scheme stating I owe them money. I left this scheme 7 months ago as it seemed only my savings account was used and non of the cover was used. I called Liberty and was told I have already been handed over to attorneys for collection and I will be blacklisted. On asking if they can explain to me where this comes from I was told to contact the attorneys - no explanation NOTHING.
I called the attorneys and heard I was handed over on the 25 of March give or take a day. The timelines are as follows Letter Dated 25 February, Letter mailed in Cape Town 15 March. Due to the post office strike the notification was only send to my address on 26 March 2013, by this time I was already handed over. I left messages at Liberty in Cape Town for somebody to call me back - NO RESPONSE. The letter stated I was contacted numerous times - I did not receive any letters or call until the 17th of April that I actioned immediately. Now I have to pay R 1, 105.00 extra for the attorney fees after I was not notified of any action against me.
