Medi-Clinic
Authorisation not obtained

Sandton Mediclinic's reception staff not obtain authorisation when I was admitted on a Friday afternoon via the Emergency Department, despite them assuring me they would take care of this. At no point did any staff warn me that I should contact my medical aid. I was not assessed by a specialist until my 3rd day in hospital, and therefore only received treatment for a few hours. My 3 day maximum benefit for backache being wasted as a result. My 3 day admission was a complete waste of my time, as I only received bed rest and oral medication for 2.5 days, which I could have done at home. It was also a complete waste of my medical aid's money. I discharged myself on the 3rd day as my medical aid advised they would not be paying for my admission as Sandton had not obtained auth. Luckily my medical aid later agreed to pay for my stay, but I am now unable to receive the treatment I require as my benefit has been used up.

I was horrified by the terrible service and most frustrated by the undue stress this caused to me trying to fix their error. I have made complaints but have yet to receive a satisfactory response. While an apology is appreciated, this does not resolve my problem!
