Disvovery won't pay to remove bump in my breast

I went for a mammogram. They found a bump and reffered me to a specialist. The specialist said I have to remove it, because of my family history with breast cancer. But discovery won't pay for the removing of the bump. They say if it is cancer they will pay otherwise i should pay myself. Now my question is why do they pay for me to get the mammogram but they don't pay when the doctor find something? I am 53 years old and a widow. I have medical aid for things like this and now i can't find out what this thing in my breast is.
