Unisa
UNISA only interested in your money

I applied in October 2012 to upgrade my Higher Diploma to a degree. I am 43 years old (qualifies me for an age exemption) with 15 years experience in teaching the subjects that I wanted to study through UNISA. This should not only have been sufficient to register for the course, but should have even given me credits as I have already completed most of their 1st and 2nd year modules while doing my Diploma through WITS. I paid R150 application fee and waited, nothing. Eventually, in December I went to the Richards Bay office to inquire whether my application was successful or not. I was then informed that as I did not achieve a matric exemption back in 1986, I would have to pay an extra R400 to apply to UNISA's exemption board and was advised to pay 50% of the modules I wanted to take as I would not be registered before I paid. I paid R2280 as well and waited. Today, January 11th, 2013, I received an email from a Mr. C Paterson informing me that, despite my 15 years experience and my Higher Diploma, I do not qualify to begin the degree course and have to take an alternate route. WITS informed me that I would have qualified with them on age exemption alone for exactly the same course.
