I signed up at Afrideed for the DOTS service, i.e. Deed Office Tracking System so that I could track the progress of a property transfer. In order to activate the user account a minimum payment of R100 is required, which I paid by credit card. However, the report generated merely stated "record not found". Notwithstanding this, my credit balance was reduced by the amount chargeable for the enquiry. In order to avoid exhausting my credit unnecessarily, I phoned the company to find out if I was entering incorrect search criteria. But the guy I spoke to could not quite explain what I was doing wrong (if anything); instead I was told to give it a few days as the transfer request was clearly not in the system, however this was impossible as the papers had been lodged by the attorney. After a few attempts at pulling the report I asked for a refund but received no reply from this "Steve" who had, subsequent to my phone call, e-mailed me the same failed report I had retrieved.
