Mis-formed and still had to pay

Hi,
I called the Europcar call centre on Thursday to find out if Europcar accepted debit cards. I was told 'yes' and nothing more. On collection of my car, I was told that with a debit card, I had to pay an additional amount on my deposit. It was really upsetting since I was not told this during my enquiry and I had to pay an additional R5000. What if I had come to Durban on a budget and did not have the additional amount? Would I then be stranded at the airport with no access to a car? The staff and duty manager where of no help and just stood there waiting for me to pay the full amount. This is really pathetic service from such a reputable company.
