A Citroen C2 or a lemon?

My Citroen C2 is the love of my life. Or until recently it was - now it's just becoming an expensive nightmare and research on the internet reveals that it doesn't appear as I'm the only one having these problems.
It is a 2008 model - so just five years old. It has been serviced regularly and only by the Citroen's authorised dealership. It has had one (not quite little old lady) driver. It has done 72 000 km and recently went in for a routine service where I was told there was oil in the water pump so potentially a cylinder head gasket will need replacing (which generally means it *will* need replacing).
My question is: if this is a problem with these cars (and again - evidence would suggest that it is) - should Citroen not be taking responsibility for the problem. Surely this kind of problem should not be happening in such a young car with relatively low mileage - even a girl knows that this is an 'old car' problem.
Is this why the C2 model has been withdrawn from the market?
What makes this all harder to swallow is the fact that last year the car's suddenly needed replacing to the tune of R10000. Have I bought a lemon or should one expect this from a Citroen?
