Automobile Association
Pensioners Left High and Dry on the Freeway

Had a breakdown in our car on an extremely fast and furious stretch on the N2 from Richards Bay to Durban, last Thursday, 6th June, 2013. Cell phone wouldn't work for some reason but two motorists eventually stopped to help. One left for the nearest phone and reported the incident, and another stopped and kindly waited with us. He also reported the situation to the AA. We eventually had to phone the AA Emergency number FIVE times, the last time when a very irate member questioned whether it was worth being a member of AA. We were promised a Security Company would be there to wait with us - still waiting - we were then promised a police presence - also still waiting for them to arrive - and eventually after THREE HOURS a breakdown truck arrived. He wanted to take us back to Richard's Bay whilst we wanted to go to Durban. After much haggling on the telephone with the tow truck company and, presumably, the AA, they agreed to take us to Durban, at a cost to us of R2 609, 00. After all the anxiety of waiting on a treacherous piece of road all that time, this information was the cherry on the cake!! Would add that local residents were very worried about us stopping where we did.
