Due to unforeseen circumstances, my evening's plans were somewhat diverted, and I ended up having supper at Saigon restaurant in Kloof Street, Gardens. It wasn't my first time, and probably won't be my last.
Ryan served me. As usual, Ryan was very professional and decent, and he recognised me as a sort-of regular as he has served me several times before.
Service was quick, friendly, respectful, and professional! And Ryan's assistant "runner" was also really good, sorry that I did not get his name! But a really good young man as well.
And, despite having eaten there many times, I discovered only last night that they have an upstairs section with even better views than downstairs!
The only aspect of my supper that really marred the evening was the conduct of the manager. He spoke very abruptly to Ryan for no apparent reason and it sounded as if he was trying to restrict his table and hence his tips! Yet the service Ryan delivered to me and to other diners was superb! The manager seemed rushed and contrived with me too. The manager's conduct with Ryan and with his customers was strongly reminiscent of Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers! Really not good!
But Ryan is wonderful!
