No stock that is advertised on menu

I tried ordering corn on the cob, which I would suppose is quite commonly obtainable anywhere. But I was told they dont have stock. How poorly managed is it to have some mealies in stock when people order it? Is it that difficult to pro actively order stock when it might finish before time??
