My partner and I stopped off at Spur in Lydenburg on Sunday late afternoon for an early dinner (our anniversary) - as Lydenburg is a rather small town, Spur seemed to be the only establishment that was still open for business.
We ordered 600g ribs and the prawn platter, along with a salad. Upon being served with our meal, the ribs looked absolutely appalling (we did attempt to eat this but ended up leaving most of it behind due to the tastelessness of the food). The prawns were just as bad, really tough and again - tasteless. The only enjoyable thing on our table was the salad.
We paid the bill without any complaint as neither of us wished to spoil our anniversary and had to drive back to Johannesburg, however on contemplation we should have aired our views as this has honestly been the most awful meal I have ever attempted to have at a Spur branch.
I do not wish for my perception of Spur Steak Ranches in general to be tainted, but in this instance I am quite disillusioned. What was meant to be a stop for a good relaxing early dinner proved to be a waste of our time and our money and did not do much for our anniversary mood.
