On Monday the 22nd July I went to Mugg and Bean Hillcrest to chill and work on my Masters Dissertation, as one does in a coffee shop.
Upon arrival, I ordered a Serious Cappuccino. I continued to work uninterrupted for about an hour, then ordered an Appletizer.
Normally I listen to music through headphones, but I was busy with calculations and I had muted my music; the manager (Heather) obviously thought that I couldn't hear her and muttered to the waiter who was serving me, "this guys been here for about 2 hours and all he's had is two drinks. He's not even worth my time."
It is worth noting that it was a Monday morning, and the occupancy of the shop never exceeded 30%.
I frequently work at the Mugg and Bean, and, on average I will have three drinks and lunch. My bill normally amounts to around R150 and because I have been there for a few hours I always tip about R50.
Obviously Mugg and Bean does not appreciate my patronage, and I can assure you that I do not enjoy being talked down to me for no reason.
The waiter in this case (Thabani) was brilliant. After I had paid he engaged me in conversation and asked me what I was working on; he understands customers, Heather does not.
