About 2 to 3 weeks ago I received an sms from ABSA informing me that my FICA was in need of updating and that I would receive a phone call about it. I never received any phone call, perhaps I did and no one got hold of me. Either way the bank didn't try very hard to contact me. Hence I gathered my proof of residential forms together and because I live with my sister I had to get her signature. I didn't think the matter was urgent.

Hence I was shocked when this week my account was frozen, all of a sudden I couldn't assess my money. No warning, nothing. The bank just locks you money away. Then when going into the bank I am told that my FICA form is incorrect because I haven't written out my sister's middle name who lives with me as co-habitant.

How is it that I can be a customer with the bank quite literally since I am born and yet when they choose to block my account there is no warning nothing, they just freeze it.

What if I had just run up a bill at a restaurant or filled my car with petrol. The fact that the bank doesn't inform you that YOUR money is going to be locked away is shocking. Absolutely shocking.
