Get it wrong then hound me

I received an sms on Monday the 20th Jan with a message to call them as my account was overdue. I immediately called the 0861147147 number to query this as my account has never been in arrears. The lady that answered told me that there must have been a mistake as my account was not in arrears. Yesterday morning I got a missed call (NOT an unanswered call) from a private number and then an hour or so later another call which rang long enough for me to answer this time. When I answered i was greeted by an automated voice telling me to hold and then a lady came on the line telling me that my account was overdue. She them asked me to verify who I was. She called me but wanted ME to verify who I was? I said no and hung up. Turns out my account was overdue by a small amount which I rectified. Point is, how can I be told on Monday that everything was fine and then yesterday get told a different story? Why should I give out personal information to a stranger calling from a private number? how much am i going to be charged for the sms and the phone calls? This is NOT the kind of service that Sir Richard Branson would be proud of. Listen to the call at 1.32PM on Monday and tell me Im wrong.
