In March this year, after over a year of awful service, I attempted to close my Standard Bank cheque and credit card accounts.
Despite unequivocal emails from me to Hajiera Joseph (my private banking consultant) requesting the closure of my accounts, I continued to receive bank statements reflecting that a monthly service fee was being deducted. When I contacted Hajiera to query this, she told me not to worry, and that the fees would be reversed.
However, in early October I received a notice by registered mail, informing me that I was in arrears on the supposedly closed cheque account and that if I failed to pay, Standard Bank would seek judgment against me for the outstanding amount. I immediately contacted Hajiera, who assured me that it was an error on Standard Bank's part, which would be fixed, and my credit rating would be unaffected.
Today, I requested a credit report from [URL Removed] which shows that in respect of my credit card account, I was 30 days in arrrears on my credit card payment in April. But I requested closure of the account (which I had settled on time) in March! I'm happy to forget the incompetence I've encoutered; but I want my credit history fixed.
