Standard Bank
Why is my money not safe at the bank?

I entrust my money to Standard Bank and the bank allows bogus companies with debit order know-how to help themselves to my money. R399 was debited from account last week and I had to go to the trouble of calling the bank to have it reversed. And, to add insult to injury, I was informed that I would have to pay a fee to have the bank tell me who they gave my money to. Of course I could't agree to such a ridiculous thing. And what I find particularly strange is that I didn't get an sms alert of this debit, whereas I have signed up for sms alerts. Had I not checked my account on Friday morning I would now be minus a sum of R399 and would have to jump through hoops to have it reversed, since it would be more than 48hrs since the debit. What I'd like to know is why Standard Bank doesn't have security measures in place to prevent such activity. Should I change banks perhaps and go somewhere else where I can have peace of mind that my hard-earned money is safe? Please do let me know. FNB can switch my account in the blink of an eye you know!
