I have been unfairly treated at standard bank

I went on 2 September 2011 and requested at enquiries a what I owe standard bank to close all my accounts and she gave me the amounts and I stressed to her is this all I owe and she said yes. Now years later they are saying that I have not paid the personal loan that I had with them and I told them that I closed all my standard bank accounts. How do I clear this and not pay for more than what was owed up to the 2 September 2011 as this is when it should have been closed, I have requested this before from standard bank and up to know I still have not been given a proper answer and feel this is not my fault and don't see why I should be punished for standard banks neglect with regards to my credit record. I am not sure how far the Prescription Act protects me. Looking forward to your response.
