Card miraculously stops?

I had my bank cards replaced due to, this was done very speedily. I collected my cards and all was good. I made a purchase, then went to another store and suddenly BOTH my cards were being declined (reason on machine was to call vendor) yet my wife's cards (linked to the same account) worked perfectly, this was more frustrating than embarrassing, but still enough to irk the of me. I do not necessarily have time to go into a bank again this coming weekend, so I am basically sitting with useless pieces of plastic! This is so frustrating after the amazing service of getting the cards stopped and replaced.
