Billing on wrong day

Thank you virgin money for giving me the option of authorizing debit payments to go off on the 1st, sending me a statement that says it will go off on the 2nd and only debiting the account on the 3rd. On the 3rd I expected all deductions to be off so I transferred the remainder, only to later discover that your late debit order bounced. My bank does not allow for inter account transfers on money that has been placed on hold, please don't use that excuse. Now I have to pay for your blunder and have a no payment on my credit record. Maybe it's time to switch to a real bank - how do I close my account?
