I took out a anuity fund November last year, in the meantime I got a position at a Financial Services Provider which includes a pension fund, so on the 6th of March I called Mbali at Liberty to request cancellation of this policy. She advised me, after i specifically asked, that there will NOT be any penalties seeing that the total amount of the policy is less than R 7000.00. As per the documentation that was emailed to me, this confirmed what she said. I phoned Liberty again today and was firstly assisted by a completely illiterate that should be debarred from FAIS!!! Then eventually I got through to Chrystal Du Preez, who again also confirmed that there should NOT be any penalties. She put me through ro Alain - A Team Manager, who again said there will be penalties...
The contract states no penalties will be paid if the anuity is worth less then R7000.00.
If Liberty does not come back to me within 2 hours with confirmation that I WILL NOT PAY ANY PENALTIES, I WILL REPORT THIS TO THE OMBUDSMAN. I HAVE RECORDINGS OF ALL CONVERSATIONS. I WILL ALSO REQUEST A SARS AUDIT IMMEDIATELY.
