In April 2013 I noticed that the last water bill I received was in Feb 2013. I made a phone call to Jhb Water to find out what my bill was and was given the amount of R5286.00 and said to them that I'm not receiving my accounts can they please investigate and let me know what's happening.
I paid the bill on the 20th of May.
The next bill I received was in August for R58915.00. We used specialists to check the water system under the house and found a leak under the house under a concrete slab. Had we received our statements we would have picked up the problem in the May 2013 account and saved between R50 000 and R70 000.
We then tried to find the water meter and it was so deeply buried under ground that Jhb water said they need to replace the meter.
The operations Manager at the Sandton branch also said to us that ones the meter is replaced we need to do meter reading for 10 days so we can work out the average normal water usage and that is how we'll be billed. After doing this she came back with a response of the meter was not faulty and we need to pay. They are not accountable for the post office not delivering our statements??
Surely they have to take some accountability??
