Took my son for dinner tonight to Nelson Mandela Square. I felt like something interesting so decided to give Wangthai a go. We got seated at a lovely table, overlooking the square. I ordered Tom yang goon soup (a personal favourite), spring rolls for Luke and some Phad Thai noodles to share. The soup was very spicy, even though I'd asked for it mild. The spring rolls were ok, the noodles were really greasy. We get up after our meal to take Luke to the toilet. When we get back, the manager had seated someone else at our table! They hastily try to give us another table. I refuse and say I want my bill. They leave us standing in the middle of the restaurant and take their time getting the bill. Eventually, fuming, I walk to the till and let them have it. They make an excuse that it's an honest mistake. They give me the meal for free. Is this the kind of service we should expect at one of Johannesburg's popular eating spots? Spoiled our otherwise great evening. :(
