In Sept & Oct 2012 I paid ATL Tours R60500 for a tour for 5 people to take place from 10 Dec.
In Nov. Ahmed Talaat of ATL called to tell me the tour was cancelled because of the trouble in Egypt.
He promised then, and many times since, to refund me 'immediately' or 'soon', but has failed to do so.
I contacted Wendy Knowler of Consumer Watch for help but I don't know if she will cover the story. She received 2 letters from ATL's lawyer asserting that I had cancelled the tour! I am furious to read the lie. The contract states that if ATL cancels then clients are refunded in full, but if the client cancels only a fraction is refunded. The lawyer's letter also said that ATL will only pay me once the tour operator in Egypt refunds them. This I reject - I paid ATL for a service they failed to provide, so ATL owes me.
I feel like I have been conned and defrauded, especially because the ATL Tours advertising carries the ASATA logo but they claim ATL is not a member, and I recently found Ahmed Talaat mentioned on a world tour forum.
If you're thinking of booking a tour through ATL Tours - beware.
